Consultant, Asia Regional Team

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat is now recruiting a consultant for a one-year contract to replace one of our colleagues who is to go on parental leave. 

This position offers the chance to work in an international and vibrant working environment helping citizens of resource-rich countries benefit from their natural resources and to work on subjects at the cutting edge of development and the extractive industry 

The main responsibility will be to work with country leads in providing implementation support for the EITI Standard to Asian countries. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, detail-oriented, technical-minded individual who can oversee technical projects in the region and manage stakeholder relations in EITI member countries in Asia, Eastern Europe and Caucasus depending on previous knowledge and experience. The consultant will report directly to the Asia Director and be part of a team of six members. The length of the assignment will be linked to the parental leave and is estimated to be 12 months.  

The EITI International Secretariat is situated in Oslo, Norway. We offer a competitive salary and will consider requests to provide financial support to contribute to relocation costs to Oslo based on circumstances and financial need. We particularly welcome applicants from the Asia region and will also consider applicants who want to join on a remote working contract. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • The key responsibility will be to support the Asia Team overseeing EITI implementation in some countries in the region. This includes: 

  • maintaining active engagement with national stakeholders

  • coordinating country projects on specific themes such as SOE transparency, contract disclosure, beneficial ownership

  • providing support in the publication and review of EITI Reports

  • conducting capacity building activities

  • Document and communicate progress in assigned countries through blogs, news items, regular reports to the Board, senior management and other partners. 

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates that have relevant advanced university degree. Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is highly desirable. 

Excellent communication skills with good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Russian and/or other languages used by EITI implementing countries in Asia is desirable but not required.

Excellent command of Microsoft Office tools. 

At least five years of experience in: 

  • natural resource governance in Asia

  • technical or policy work in the extractive sector
